The Waihora Tennis Club is located in the Waihora Park Reserve (Motukarara) approximately 30 kilometers from Christchurch. Our 3 courts are a well used local facility used by locals and visitors alike.The picturesque club rooms are arguably the most historic and best positioned rooms in the Ellesmere district.
The 2017/18 season sees the Waihora Tennis Club field teams across a range of Ellesmere competitions. Teams are entered in the Junior's Saturday competition and there are three mid-weekd teams enjoyed double games throughout the summer season.
Teams cover all ages and a wide range of abilities from competitive to social.We are seeking players of all ages and all abilities, contact Hamish Limbrick for more information. Everyone is welcome.
Mid week team doubles is a growing competition. The team composition is a little more relaxed in that 4 players of any gender compete in an all doubles competition. Fun for all over a wide range of abilities. Players play 4 30 minute games with the winning team being determined at the end of the evening by winning the most double games.
Junior tennis is alive and well at Waihora.
- As with last year, there will be 2 types of coaching:
- 1. Unstructured fun tennis activities for younger kids. This is just hitting the ball around and encouraging eye-hand coordination ($30 per season to cover afternoon teas)
- 2. Formal structured coaching by a trained tennis coach. This is intended for kids over 7 years old who want to play proper tennis games. ($8 per session, minimum 10 sessions).
- The unstructured activities start around 3.30pm on Fridays and finish at 4.00pm. Tai Tapu School kids can take the Kaituna bus directly from school and be dropped at the gate of the club where they will be met by an adult Waihora Tennis Club member and given some afternoon tea. Adult supervision will continue until 5.00pm so if children want to stay around the tennis club/domain until then this is fine (cheap child minding!!).
- Formal group lessons will once again be taken by Bill Kronenberg on Fridays at 4.00pm for one hour. Kids enrolled for the formal coaching are welcome to take part in the unstructured activities beforehand.Lessons start mid October. Please contact Hamish to book
