History

The Waimate Cricket Club is based at Knottingley Park, Waimate in the Waimate District. The club was established in 1882 when it started playing friendly games between Willowbridge, C.F.C.A, Studholme, High School, Morven, Union (Oamaru) and Albion (Oamaru) right up until 1930-31.

In April 1932, a meeting was called by Mr E. C. Studholme to form a Waimate Cricket Association and in October 1932 it was formed. In the inaugural 1932-33 season the Waimate Cricket Club entered two teams in this competition playing against teams from High School, Willowbridge, Morven, Redcliff, and Glenavy clubs. Waimate B would win the first competition in a final against Glenavy.

The Waimate Cricket Club played in the Waimate Sub-Association competition right up until 1971 when it was decided due to declining club memberships of most clubs that the six Sub-Association clubs should wind up the Waimate Sub-Association competition and enter teams in the South Canterbury Competition.

The six Sub-Association clubs at the time (Northern, Morven, Glenavy, Waimate, Old Boys and High School) decided to form under the name Waimate and entered two teams (a Senior Grade and Second Grade team) in the South Canterbury Competition.

In the 2019-2020 season the Waimate Cricket Club have a Second Grade, Colts Grade, JAB B Grade and JAB C Grade teams playing in the South Canterbury Cricket Association competitions.
