Racing and Regatta Events

    Club racing forms the backbone of New Zealand yachting. While the racing at WYC is certainly competitive, our emphasis is on having fun.

    We try to ensure that our races are relaxed affairs, with simple but effective courses to make your sailing as enjoyable as possible.Wanaka Yacht Club conducts a twilight race series throughout the Summer season commencing at 6.00pm every Thursday. The clubrooms offer a spectacular vista and a great place for a drink and a light meal after racing.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

    Twilight Series

    Wanaka Yacht Club hosts a Twilight Series on Thursday Nights in both Spring and Summer.These events are fun, competitive and well attended with over 30 boats often being seen on the water.

    Trophies are awarded in multiple divisions for each series with the combination of the two making up the season champs.

    All comers are welcome a per race basis at any of our WYC events.

    Sunday 420 Teams and Fleet Races

    Each Sunday we try to provide 7 to 11 short races! Ages and abilities are mixed from learn-to-sail graduates to “old people”. 420’s are provided and teams are picked on the day. You can turn up as an individual, no problem! We do a mixture of “teams races” and a few fleet races too. Just turn up and find out how much fun this can be! Not a problem if you have not “teams raced” before. Meet 1pm, briefing 1:30pm, 1st race starts 2pm, last race finishes about 4:30pm.
