Wellington College teams play in the College Sports Competition against secondary schools in Wellington and Horowhenua Kapiti. The sport is run by the Wellington College Cricket Club which facilitates professional coaching programmes ensuring that all players are allowed to develop their skills. The club offers a positive environment that encourages participation and excellence.
The first XI plays in a number of annual traditional fixtures both home and away. The second XI, Year 9 and Year 10 teams also play in traditional matches as well as having the opportunity to play in cricket tournaments both in Wellington and other North Island locations. Robust performance-based selection criteria and progressive development opportunities enable players to progress and develop their potential.

What's Different about College Cricket?
There are some differences between the College and Junior Club Cricket environments:
Cricket is played across the calendar year starting in Term 1 and concluding in Term 4. There may be options for playing cricket in the Hawke's Bay tournaments in Labour Weekend and January.
College cricket is run by College Sport Wellington.
College Sport Wellington defines junior cricket as Years 9-10 with the option of playing T20 or T40 (graded teams). Senior cricket is Year 11-13 with the option of playing T20 or T50 (graded teams).
College cricket is generally played on participating school grounds around the region with some games on Council grounds.
College believes in the value of professional coaching and provides qualified professional coaches for as many teams as possible
Parental involvement is different, and varies between teams:
There is no parental involvement in selection decisions or the setting of batting and bowling orders. For junior teams, a pod system is utilised to rotate play equally between players.
All teams require parent Team Managers.
Junior teams (Years 9 and 10) require parental assistance with umpiring and scoring.
Grade conveners can explain the requirements of each grade.
Heja App is used for all team communications.
