This popular basketball league will continue in 2026. It is played at Wellington College in the Sportscente or Old Boys Gym during Term Two only on Tuesday lunchtimes or after school (3:25, 4:05, and maybe 4:45) on Tuesday afternoon. There may be catch-up games on Wednesday lunchtimes.
You must be a Year 9 or 10 student and NOT play for a WC Basketball competitive team. You can form your own team of friends (10 players) make up a team name, and wear the same team t-shirt colour. Bibs can be provided for the duration of the game.
Players must be Y9/Y10 social grade registered and have paid subs
Players can only play for the team (that they have registered to play for)

Be a positive spectator
The game will consist of 18-20 mins halves, 1-minute halftime, 1-2 minutes between games. The games will start on time.
Running clock
Substitutions can rotate in/out but players must come in exactly where leaving players exit halfway. There should never be six players from one team on the court
No time-outs allowed
Lunchtime games may be shortened. Teams will be advised.
No Free throws
1 defensive foul = 1 point to the opponents' team, the opponent's ball from the sideline.
1 defensive foul whilst in the act of shooting = 2/3 points to opponent's team, the defensive ball from the baseline. i.e same as if shooter had made a shot.
A made shot is an extra point. For example, if an offensive player is fouled while shooting a three-pointer and the shot goes in, their team will gain 4 points.
Any defence allowed
No shot clock violation
For semi and finals if a match is drawn, then extra time will run a golden point period - the first point wins the game..i.e foul/goal.
Points per match will be allocated based on results
Win = 2 point
Loss = 0 points
Draw = 1 point
Default/bad sportsmanship = -2 point
Unregistered player or player from another JBSL team = -2 and automatic loss of game.
Teams must have at least four players to start a match when the game is to begin (or a default result). It is also at the referee's discretion (especially games straight after school).
Absolutely no arguing with the referees with whom we are developing.
Teams check the draw and arrive before play as games will start on time.
The draw will be posted online and outside the Sports Coordinators office, in the Sportscentre.
Provide a DUTY score bench of two players (for scoring) when assigned. It is the captain's job to sort this out bench role.
It is the captain's role to ensure they have at least 5 players.
Full sports gear is required. No school tops/shorts/shoes.
We will supply bibs to wear. However, there is an option with your team to self-sort t-shirts/attire. I.e. organise your own similar colour or designed/purchased tops. i.e Runathon tops, NBA teams, or simply bring the same colour tops on game day. These tops do not require individual numbers.
If you fail to show up for duty, your team will have 2 points deducted
Use score use a flipchart to display the running total for each team
