ASSOCIATION DAY NOTES

This is a fundraising event for Waikato Women’s Golf.

It is a 2 Ball Best Ball, team event alternated around 5 Clubs: 2024 Te Awamutu, 2025 Matamata, 2026 Cambridge, 2027 Hamilton.

This annual event is played the 1st Monday AFTER King's Birthday Weekend.

Waikato Golf email the flyer and entry form to all clubs and do the draw which is sent to the host club.

Unlimited pairs from clubs may enter. Clubs are to pay $25 per player, online to Waikato Golf.

Clubs who choose not to attend will pay $50.

Clubs bring 2 prizes of a minimum value of $25 on the day.

Results go back into Waikato Golf for the website.

Winners to be presented with the Helen Wilson Jug.

Additional Notes RE: Helen Wilson Jug...

We have established that the Jug was donated by a 'W Goodger' (engraved on the jug), and named in honour of Helen Wilson in 1958. Helen Wilson was instrumental in obtaining recognition of District Associations work within the New Zealand Ladies Golf Union (later Women's Golf  NZ). We used to play for it in conjunction with our Home Links events. We each paid a $3 entry with funds going to the Waikato King Country Ladies Golf Association. The best nett winners card from each Club was forwarded to the Association. The overall winner was announced and presented with the Jug at the Champions of Champions. It was a very popular competition which could be won by any member of any club.

An interesting part of the presentation was to get the winner to be present at the Champion of Champions without letting them know they had won the HWJ. It was always kept as a surprise. Sometimes they were 'encouraged' to caddy.

In 2006 it became a foursomes competition and later was changed to its current 2BBB.

What a beauty day to have our 2023 Association Day Event.  The sunshine came out and warmed the day up for our 80 participants representing 20 of our Waikato Disctrict clubs.  This year, Hamilton Golf Club was our host venue of which the course and facilities are suited perfectly for this annual event.  Our ladies provided plenty of good golf with 30 teams entering scores between 60-69 Nett.  Outstanding!

Congratulations to this years winning team, a combination from Tahuna and Morrinsville Golf Club, Anita Wilson & Sheryll Gordon!  Their NETT score of 60 was enough to win the Helen Wilson Jug trophy and have first pick of the prize table.  Well done to you ladies.

There are many to thank for their help in making this day so special.  We'd like to start with Hamilton Golf Clubs General Manager, Travis Gawler, for agreeing to host and his staff Linda, in the front office, Liam on the bar & Sarah in the Proshop for keeping us on track.  Massive thanks to Barb Corkrill, the Hamilton Women's Club Captain, and her many volunteers for coordinating the days activities and providing a beautiful home baked morning tea!  Just a lovely way to start the day.  We'd also like to thank MatteBlack Cafe for providing a delicious lunch box for the ladies after play.

Thanks again to everyone that helped put this event together and those that participated!  We hope to see you all back again for the 2024 Association Day!

A wonderful sunny day with mild temperatures for our rescheduled 2022 Asssociation Day Teams event.  The day suited the team of Sue Lourie and Liz Bartlett very well as they went on to win the event with a 2 shot advantage over the 2nd place pairing of Marg Edmeades from Tieke and Shirley  Kinnaird from Tirau and 3rd place Team (countback) of Pam Anderson and Faye Mathews from Matamata.

We here at Waikato Golf Association would like to thank all of you that participated and to those that couldn't make the rescheduled event due to other committments.  We would also like to thank the Putaruru Golf Club for hosting this event, for their members that helped with catering, the greens staff for having the course in top condition and a special thank you to Denise Hunt, Barbara Barr and Alison Riley for coordinating this annual event!  We appreciate all that you have done!  We hope to see you all back again next year at Hamilton Golf Club!
