TE WHARE O NGĀ WHALERS

The Tauranga Whalers Rugby League Club is a proud community club representing Tauranga and Mount Maunganui communities within the Bay of Plenty. Established in 1989, our club was formed to provide opportunities for local players and whānau to participate in rugby league and strengthen the sport within the region.

From its beginning, our club has maintained strong whānau, hāpu, and iwi connections, particularly with our three local marae Tamapahore, Romai and Ngapeke (Te Whetu-o- te Rangi). The Whalers have always been more than just a sports club; we represent generations of whānau who have come together through rugby league to support our tamariki, youth development, and positive pathways for young people.

Tauranga Whalers continue to compete in Coastline Rugby League and Bay of Plenty Rugby League competitions, fielding junior, youth, women’s and mens teams. The club prides itself on fostering talent, encouraging participation, and creating a positive and inclusive environment for players of all ages and abilities.

We remain committed to building a strong future for rugby league in Tauranga Moana while honouring the legacy of the players, volunteers, coaches, and whānau who have helped shape the club into what it is today. Through dedication, community spirit, and passion for the game, the Whalers continue to represent the strength and pride of our community.

Whānau means everything to our club and with that comes our three core values RESPECT, PASSION and PRIDE. These values is what we strive to build on culture and instill into all our members involved.
