We are excited to welcome students who are considering joining Whanganui Girls' College in 2027!
Our entrance scholarships are an opportunity for students to showcase their strengths, celebrate their learning and take the next step in their educational journey.
We know that examinations can sometimes feel a little daunting, particularly when preparing to begin secondary school. We want every applicant to feel confident, informed and supported throughout the experience.
Academic Excellence and Centennial Memorial applicants
If you have applied for an Academic Excellence or Centennial Memorial Scholarship, you will sit our scholarship examination on Friday 13 November 2026 at 12:30pm. Please arrive at 12:15pm and gather in the school foyer, where Mr McFadyen will welcome you.
Our interactive study workbook is there to help you practise, explore different learning areas and build confidence. Work through it at your own pace, and use the Exam Information & What to Expect button below to find out more about the day.
Sports and Cultural/Creative Arts applicants
These scholarships are assessed through your application and supporting portfolio. You only need to sit the examination if you have also applied for an Academic Excellence or Centennial Memorial Scholarship.
Sports and Cultural/Creative Arts applications will be considered during 16–20 November 2026.
When will we hear?
Successful scholarship applicants will be contacted by phone on Monday 23 November and invited to our Junior Prizegiving on Monday 7 December, where their achievements will be acknowledged.
For students attending the examination
Alongside the examination, you’ll have a friendly five-minute conversation with a former WGC student. There’s no need to prepare a speech. We’d simply love to hear about your interests, what you enjoy and what you’re looking forward to at WGC.
Shared Kai and Making New Friends
Once the examinations have finished, we'll come together for some shared kai and an opportunity to meet other students who will be starting at Whanganui Girls' College in 2027.
It's a great chance to make some new connections, meet some friendly faces and start feeling part of the WGC whānau before your first day!
Our advice is simple: give everything a go, practise regularly and remember that showing your thinking is just as important as getting the correct answer.
Most importantly, come along ready to be yourself. We look forward to meeting you!
