Thank you for looking at this page. As with any club run by volunteers, with more people helping just a little bit, the easier and more enjoyable it becomes and the better the outcomes for our children. Luckily our club is already supported well already so you would be joining a great team that help in so many different ways. We all have different skills and circumstances.
Here are some of the main ways you could help us, but please do touch base if you have ideas of other ways you can support and help us.
Committee
Email if you would be interested in joining the club committee if you would like to contribute to how the netball club runs: think coach support, finances, uniform and gear planning, liaison with Nelson Netball.
This consists of attending a few meetings (2-3 per per year)
- pre-season
- AGM
- post season wrap up
The key committee roles are filled for 2024, but a few of the committee members are in their final season with the club. It would be great to have others learning alongside. It's also great to have additional people join to ensure a wide range of views are heard and incorporated into decision making.
Fundraising & grant applications
We currently try to keep fundraising simple, but it does go a long way to ensuring we have good quality gear and uniforms.
At a minimum we run
- one Mapua Sprig & Fern quiz night
- some years we also run a sausage sizzle/bake stall at Saxton Netball courts for one full Saturday. We are doing this in 2024.
- We also apply for grants for specific requirements (new uniforms, equipment, subsidised fees)
Having people that are happy to help drive these, as well as others who can provide items for raffles, baking, a few hours are all really appreciated.
Coach/team support
We don't officially organise a 'team manager' to support our volunteer coaches, but it is very nice if you are going to be courtside every week to offer your help to the coaches.
Ways to help are:
- back up coach if they need to be away due to illness or holiday
- supporting coaches on the sideline with players
- taking team photos (required for end of season certificates)
- handing out and collecting uniforms
- ensuring all equipment is back in the bags after training and games
- supporting players and the coach during games or with training drills
- supplying cut up oranges for half time
Each coach runs their team in a different way so check in with them as to how you could help them. Just knowing they have support on the sideline is reassuring.
Caoching / guest coaching
If you (or someone you know) are an experienced netball player or coach and could support our coaches, please do let us know. Sometimes we try to get 'guest coaches' in to give training on specific aspects. The kids enjoy it and the coaches often appreciate this support.
