As a result of the reorganisation of the Badminton Australia national badminton calendar in 2021, we are currently not able to send teams to compete in this competition due to clash with NZ events and non-alignment with school holidays.

Each year the Australasian under 17 Championships (individuals) and State/Region Teams Competition is held over the Easter period. The hosting is based on a ratio of 3 times in Australia and once in New Zealand. Teams compete for the June Bevan Trophy and the whole event is affectionately known as "June Bevan" or shortened to "JB".

New Zealand splits into 3 regions to equate to the Australian States. Central Region (lower half of the North Island) came into being through this arrangement.

Central Region enters a team each year and has done so almost every year since the 1980s. On some occasions Central Region has entered two teams.

Central finished as runner-up in 2000 (Melbourne) for the highest finish ever. Third place was gained in 1997 (Bendigo) and 2007 (Christchurch).
