Wairarapa Cricket Association is one of the smallest cricket districts in New Zealand, but it is one with a proud history.

Formed in 1894-95, Wairarapa Cricket has celebrated it share of on-field provincial success at all levels, including the primary symbol of Minor Association cricket in New Zealand, the Hawke Cup.

The Wairarapa Cricket Association currently has two Premier Mens clubs – Lansdowne and Red Star participating in the Coastal Challenge competition against clubs from the Horowhenua-Kapiti and Whanganui Districts. Participating in local Men’s competitions are Greytown (which is the second oldest cricket club in New Zealand, est. 1867 and celebrated its 150th in February 2017), Marist Old Boys, 2nds Teams from Red Star and Lansdowne, along with Carterton. from Rathkeale College. The Wairarapa College 1st XI currently competes in a Wellington College competition.

As at 2018/19 season the WCA had just over 1,000 cricketers registered in local competitions across all grades and ages. This represents the second consecutive year for close to three decades that more than one thousand people were participating in WCA organised cricket. On top of this, the Development delivery programs provided by WCA staff saw close to 2,500 school children participate in a variety of cricket related activities.
