Why Athletics

As well as producing world class athletes such as Peter Snell, John Walker, Valerie Adams, Zoe Hobbs, Eliza McCartney, Hamish Kerr and Tom Walsh. Athletics provides two key benefits:

  • It is one of the best activities for developing agility, balance, coordination and strength in young children; and
  • It builds are strong platform of strength and speed to support success in other sports.

A key strength of athletics is that it keeps the focus on personal challenge and achievement. Running times, jumping heights and distance, and throwing distances are recorded at multiple points in the season showing tangible improvement.

At Greerton Amateur Athletics Club, we welcome athletes of all ages and abilities in a fun, supportive environment where everyone can improve, develop confidence, resilience, discipline and friendships that last a lifetime.
