Code of Conduct

By caring for, respecting, and valuing one another and our resources we will ensure the ongoing and enduring welfare of our club, it’s unity and harmony, the development of skills and abilities, both team and individual and thus partake and share in the comradery and sheer enjoyment of our chosen sport/lifestyle.

We agree to:

  • Show respect for all club members regardless of differences in knowledge, experience and ability.
  • Show respect for coaches, managers, whanau members, supporters, the wider waka ama fraternity, all other water users and the general public.
  • Abide by the decisions of coaching staff in respect of selection and the roles paddlers will be called upon to perform within crews. NB: Coaches do the coaching, parental support is very much encouraged and appreciated but must not compromise or counter the intended development plan and skill sets being adopted, endorsed and delivered by the coaching staff.
  • Respect the opposition and their supporters.
  • Be humble winners and gracious in defeat.
  • Refrain from verbal or physical abuse of any person, club member or otherwise, including through the medium of technology.
  • Resolve conflicts in a timely and responsible manner, dealing with the issue not personalities.
  • Respect and care for facilities and equipment.
  • Use correct safety practices at all times.
  • The use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs is prohibited at our club sites and club sanctioned events as it is at all regional and national events.
  • Participate within the rules and the Code of Conduct at all times.

The Club Executive Committee reserves the right to censure/deregister any member who blatantly/repeatedly breaches the code of conduct. Equally and take special note the code of conduct applies to parents and supporters of our paddlers
