Garden to Table

Kilbirnie School has been involved with Garden To Table for over 5 years now.   Each Monday morning for 90 minutes, either Rimu or Kōwhai has a GTT session.  During this time, half the class works in the kitchen preparing food that was harvested by the other half of the students from the garden. Students then come together and share the kai.

We make wonderful things like pumpkin, spinach and feta sausage rolls, pesto, pasta, soups and much much more.

Throughout the year, tamariki observe the changing seasons and full food cycle and how planting, harvesting, and cooking change to reflect seasonality.

Garden to Table is curriculum-linked, meaning kids are learning core subjects while getting their hands dirty in the garden and kitchen.
