23 August

Today was Upper Hutt Valley's Open Triples which, for the second day in a row, was won by Grant Rayner, Paul Voorend & Jeff Stuart. They defeated Sheree Holmes, Ashley Diamond & Jenny Gosnell in the final. Other NW qualifiers were Avon Compton, Kyle Waldon & Josh Anderson and Jess Moffat, Dale Rayner & Trevor Rayner. This again gave Grant a first open title, this time for Upper Hutt. Well done again guys, some great form!

22 August

Today was North Wellington's Open Triples, and this was won by Grant Rayner, Paul Voorend & Jeff Stuart, defeating Brandon Fuge, Robert Fuge, Lisa Gould of Upper Hutt Valley 15-4. Other NW qualifiers were Jess Moffat, Dale Rayner & Trevor Rayner and Selwyn Joyce, Stan Jackson & Stacey Mackenzie. Well done guys!

15 August

We had a number of players representing the North Island team, playing a test match against the South Island:
Dale Rayner skipping the Women's Pairs with Sarah Warrington from Manawatu as her lead;
Jess Moffat skipping the Women's Triples with Lisa Gould from Upper Hutt Valley as her two and Sue Bourne from Taranaki as her lead;
Avon Compton skipping the Men's Triples with Geoff Coughey from Tauranga as his two and Shaun Blackbourn from Waikato as his lead.

Unfortunately, only Jess Moffat and her team were successful in securing their medals, winning the best of 3 games 3-0. However, the North Island were still successful in retaining the North/South Trophy 25 pts to 23.

Today we also had players in the Hutt Valley Open Triples, which was won by Grant Rayner, Kyle Waldron & Jeff Stuart. They defeated Mark Jacombs, Richard Corry and Ray Martin in a thrillling 10 end final 6-5. This gave Grant his inaugural Hutt Valley Open title!

9 August

Congratulations to Brandon Fuge & Dave Pollard from Upper Hutt Valley, who won the North Wellington Open Pairs today. They beat Lisa White & Robert Fuge, also from Hutt Valley, in the final 11 - 6. The losing semi finalists were Grant Rayner / Kyle Waldron and Jess Moffat / Lisa Gould.

This win also gave Dave Pollard his North Wellington Gold Star for 5 Open Titles. Well done Dave!

8 August

Congratulations to Ashley Diamond & Sheree Holmes, winning the North Wellington Open 2-4-2 Pairs. They beat Jess Moffat and Lisa Gould in the final 17 - 2. The losing semi finalists were Grant Rayner / Paul Voorend from North Wellington, and George Bromley & Alan Raven, also from North Wellington.

26 July

Congratulations to the North Wellington Top 16 squad who played in, and won, the annual Ohau 4's contest in Foxton. This is played between themselves, Horowhenua, Wanganui, Hutt Valley & Manawatu. It was last won by North Wellington in 2010, so it's an excellent result!

25 July

Well done to the North Wellington 'B'squad, who played the Catholic Association today and won 75.5 points to 68.5 points. It was a closely fought contest all day, with Catholic going out to a good lead early, but North Wellington pegging it back, and holding out for the win, which came down to the last 2 games of the day. Well done to everyone involved!

23 July

We've been advised there is an online video featuring North Wellington at a Welch Trophy competition in 1989.

12 July

A big well done to Grant Rayner who won the Closed singles today. Grant now goes on to represent North Wellington at the National Henselite Champion of Champion singles in CHristchurch later in the year. Go well Grant!

11 July:

Congratulations to the NW Top 16 side who took on Wairarapa in Masterton. They came away victorious, and were so far ahead in points, that they didn't need to play the last round of pairs. Very convincing win team!

5 July:

Well done to Avon Compton who won the Hutt Valley Open Singles, beating Chris McAdam from Upper Hutt Valley in the final.

28 June:

Well done to the North Wellington B squad, who beat the Manawatu B squad today. The North Wellington Top 8 Ladies also played Manawatu, but they weren't so succesful, losing by 4 points, which is one game.. so close!

27 June:

Well done to Avon Compton, Paul Voorend & Kyle Waldron who travelled up to Palmerston North and won the Palmerston North Open Triples. They qualified with 4 wins out for 4, and won the final against the only other qualifier - Richard Verdonk, Sue Meyer & Sarah Warrington

21 June:

Avon Compton of Tawanui won the North Wellington Open Singles, defeating Richard Corry of Victoria. See the Open Championships section, for full results.

NATIONAL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015

Many excellent results from this years Open Nationals. Avon Compton from Tawanui won his inaugural National Open Championships title, winning the singles.

Grant Rayner, Paul Psaila & Teri Anderson successfully defended their Triples title they won last year and their third time in total.

Paul Voorend & Jeff Stuart from Tawanui made it to the last 8 in the Pairs, and Frank McKenna made it to the final of the triples, playing with Robin & Jacque Porter from Taupo, but were defeated by the afore-mentioned Grant, Paul & Teri.

Eileen Lynch, Ginny Beyeler & Gay Quirke made it to the last 8 in the Master's Fours, playing with Des Nelly of Waikato.

Avon Compton, Paul Voorend, Jess Moffat & Kyle Waldron were part of the successful North Island Academy winning all their reslective sets. Frank McKenna was also reserve for the side.

Avon Compton was also named in the North Island team to take on the South Island in Auckland in August, and Paul Voorend was named as a reserve.
