17th September

Upper Hutt Valley held their Open Pairs today, and it was well attended. A number of North Wellington players were involved, and all 3 of the teams qualified - Jess & Terry Moffat, Kyle Waldron & Reece Wickenden, and Paul Voorend & Jeff Stuart.

2 of the teams - Paul Voorend & Kyle Waldron made the Semi finals, but were both beaten in close games. 

13 September

The Champ of Champ Pairs were tonight, and this was won by Kyle Waldron & Chris Maddock, playing for Newlands. They beat Tony Walsh & Margaret D'Cruz from Tawa Catholic 11-1. The losing Semi Finalists were Selwyn Joyce & Judith Johnson from Porirua Club, and Avon Compton & Al Savelio from Tawanui. Full results available here

10 September

Today was English Pairs, which is a 2-2 format. Just like standard pairs, but each player only plays 2 bowls instead of 3. This also doubled as the Posselt Pairs , where post-section is played under a 2-life system.

There were 8 entries and 3 qualifiers. This was won by Grant & Dale Rayner, who still had 2 lives when they took the last life of Jess & Terry Moffat. Full post section results found here.

9 September

Today marked the first "International weekend", playing two different formats of the game than we are normally used to. Today was the Aussie pairs, which is a 2-2-2-2, where the Lead starts and plays 2, the Skip then plays 2, the  Lead plays another 2, then the Skip finishes with 2.

There were 12 entries & 5 qualifiers. Winners were Jess & Terry Moffat, beating Paul Voorend & Jim Strachan 8-5. Full Post section results found here.

6 September

Tonight the first Champ of Champ events was held, which was the Singles. 8 clubs entered their teams, which made for a quicker night only playing 3 rounds rather than 4. Grant Rayner from Tawanui came out the winner, beating Tony Walsh from Tawa Catholic in the final 14-2. The Semi-finalists were Kyle Waldron - Newlands & George Bromley - Westpark. 6 September

We also played the Cowan Trophy tonight, which is played in a pairs format, but limited to people who are graded leads & Twos in their respective clubs. Tonight there were three entries, so this was played in a Round Robin.

Margaret D'Çruz, Gay Quirke from Tawa Catholic won this trophy by winning both of their games. Heather Barnes, Ruihana Walters from Elsdon had one win, while Chris Roberton, Glenda Athea from Westpark had two losses.

12/13 August

This weekend, the McGeady Quad tournament was held between North Wellington, Upper Hutt Valley, Manawatu & Hawkes Bay. It was a tight contest the whole way, with the scores being equal (81.5) after the 3rd round of Fours. North Wellington were able to hold their nerve by having a good final round of Singles & Pairs, coming out the victors with 120.5 pts. 

4 August

The North Wellington and Horowhenua associations combined at the North Wellington Indoor Bowls Hall, Onepoto Domain, Titahi Bay, to play the touring South Island Indoor Bowls Team. It was an exciting first match on their tour of the North Island, and the South Island team cam out victors 30-18.

The South made a great start in the first round winning the Women’s pairs, triples and fours, drawing the men’s singles and winning the Men’s pairs and triples to lead 11-5. The combined team won the women’s singles and men’s fours.

In the second round the South Island extended their lead with wins in the women’s pairs and fours, the men’s singles and pairs with the men’s fours drawn. The combined team won the women’s singles and triples and the men’s triples. The South led 20-12.

In the final round the South wrapped up the victory with wins in the women’s triples, men’s singles, pairs, triples and fours.

30 July

Inter Centre Tournament held at Awahou was won by Manawatu (24Pts/80 ends), North Wellington (18Pts/90 ends), Hutt Valley (18Pts/81 ends), Whanganui (13Pts/75 ends), Horowhenua (7Pts/63 ends).

29 July

Great contest today at Onepoto between North Wellington B and Catholic. Result came down to last bowl of last game of Pairs. The North Wellington needed to get the shot to win the game and the Trophy for North Wellington. The bowl touched the jack but left it behind and Catholic scored 3. Game set and match to Catholic who won the Elsdon Armstrong Cup 74-70.

23 July

Today a number of NW teams played in Upper Hutt Valley's Open Triples. There were two teams from NW qualified: Avon Compton, Kyle Waldron & Sam Anderson, and Paul Voorend, Jeff Stuart & Reece Wickenden. Since there were only 6 qualifiers, there were two byes into the Semi Finals, Paul Voorends team was lucky enough to get one of these 2 byes. They played an Upper Hutt team in the Semi Final and won this. Avon's team won the only Quarter Final, but then lost their Semi Final. An Upper Hutt team of Brandon Fuge, James Sullivan & Rob Fuge, beat Paul's team in the Final. Well done to both teams!

22 July

North Wellington hosted their Open Triples today. There were 15 entries, and 5 qualifiers. This was won by Jess Moffat, Lisa Gould & Terry Moffat, beating Avon Compton, Kyle Waldron & Sam Anderson 11-3 in the final. Full post section results found here.

15/16 July

This weekend, the Paterson Trophy was held, hosted by Horowhenua in Levin. The whole weekend was a very closely fought battle, like it is pretty much every year. With the result not decided until the last couple of games, the Trophy was won by Upper Hutt Valley, who now go on to represent our Zone at the Welch Trophy in Hamilton in September.

9 July

Today the North Wellington Top 8 Paterson squad (+ Reserve & Manager) travelled to Palmerston North to play the Manawatu Top 8. This is the first time this has happened and we hope for it to become a new annual match between the two Associations. While it was a closely fought battle Manawatu came out on top 38.5 - 33.5.

8 July

North Wellington played the annual Top16 rep match against Wairarapa today, and were victorious 100 - 44. 

2 July

North Wellington had a number of entrants into the Hutt Valley Open Singles today. Avon Compton was runner up, other qualifiers included Jeff Stuart, Grant Rayner & Dale Rayner.

1 July

Today was the Zone Finals for the Mixed Pairs & Mixed Fours, the winners of these go on to the NZ National Finals. North Wellington duo of Kyle Waldron & Deborah Crook, playing out of Newlands, was victorious in the Mixed pairs. The NW Mixed 4's team of Grant Rayner, Dale Rayner, Jeff Stuart & Jess Moffat came agonisingly close, losing the event on a countback of ends, by just 1 end!

Very well done Kyle & Deborah, we'll all be behind you at the National Final in Upper Hutt later this year!

25 June

Today North Wellington held a new event - a Development 2-4-2 pairs. The idea behind this event is to bring in less experienced players to play with higher rep players, to experience a level of play they may not normally get. It is open to anybody, but there can only be one "Top 16" player per team.

This was won by Kyle & Keith Waldron, beating Steve Gracie & Roz Alexander in the final 12-3.

Today the Closed "Henselite" singles was held. We had 26 entries, and 13 qualifiers. This was won by Jeff Stuart, defeating Avon Compton in the final 11-8. Full post section results here

North Wellington held their Mixed Pairs today, the winner goes on to meet the winners of the other Associations in our Zone: Hutt Valley, Upper Hutt Valley & Horowhenua. There we 19 entries, with 8 qualifiers. The finalists were Jess Moffat & Jeff Stuart vs Kyle Waldron & Deborah Crook. Kyle & Deborah took the final out 11 - 8.  27th May

Today we hosted the Thurlow Trophy, played for between us, Hutt Valley & the Catholic Associations. With a good start, to the day winning all the 4's, North Wellington were able to fend off the fast finishing Hutt Valley team, coming out on top. See the results for full team lists and points.

21st May

North Wellington held their Open Fours today, and it was well attended, with 12 teams. 4 teams qualified: Brandon Fuge,  Steve Preston, Avon Compton & Lisa Gould. Avon beat Brandon & Steve beat Lisa. Steve beat Avon in the final 11-8. See the full results for the full team lists.

20th May

Upper Hutt held their Open Fours today. North Wellington had a few teams entered, one of which came 2nd - Avon Compton, Kyle Waldron, Paul Voorend & Jeff Stuart. The winners were from Hutt Valley - Marcus Trlin, Richard Corry, Bradley Down & Raymond Martin.

13th May

Today there was a Quad Rep Match between North Wellington, Horowhenua, Hutt Valley & Upper Hutt. This was taken out by Hutt Valley, 2nd was North Wellington, 3rd was Horowhenua & Upper Hutt was 4th.

7th May

Today the NW Ladies Top 8 and the NW 2nd 16 played the Manawatu Ladies Top 8 and 2nd 16 respectively. The Ladies won 41 pts to 31. The NW 2nd 16 weren't quite so fortunate, going down 87 - 57 to the Manawatu 2nd 16. Jess Moffat & Deborah Crook were top scorers for the NW Ladies 8 winning all their games, and Ernst Schuch was top scorer for the 2nd 16.

6th May

Today the Mixed Fours were played, with 4 teams entering. The winners were Grant Rayner, Dale Rayner, Jeff Stuart & Jess Moffat from Tawanui. The runners up were Mark Andersen, Ray Riauba, Ruihana Walters & Heather Barnes from Elsdon


30th April

North Wellington Open Pairs today saw 26 entries & 9 qualifiers. This was won by Kyle Waldron & Jim Strachan, beating Dale Rayner & Jess Moffat in the final 14 - 7. Full post section results can be found here.

22nd/23rd April

This weekend, the NWWTH Trophy was played between North Wellington, Wanganui, Taranaki & Horowhenua.

North Wellington was defending champions from last year, and they didn't dissappoint, coming out overall victors. Total points talley was:

19th April

The post-section of the Mens & Ladies Singles was held tonight. Once the first couple of rounds were played, the semi-final matchups were:
