We are a junior club (ages 5-13) that holds weekly Club Nights throughout the season at Nairnville Park.

Club Nights start at 6pm sharp (please arrive by 5:50pm) and finish by 7:10pm. It is important that children are on time and ready to listen.

We ask ALL parents and caregivers (especially those with children under 7 years of age) remain and assist in supervising their children and to enjoy the activities they take part in.

Our Club Nights to align closely with Athletics New Zealand development guidelines. We run two separate programmes depending on age - for more details on age groups see here

  • 5-6yr olds participate in a specialised Get Set Go programme. The emphasis is on having fun whilst building and developing basic skills.
  • For kids aged 7yrs and above, we use the Athletics New Zealand Run Jump Throw programme as a base. This develops athletics-specific skills in a fun way. We also ensure our kids get some practice on each specific athletic events. Kids will do three different activities each Club Night

Towards the end of each Club Night, we run an event where the kids get to have a longer run around (it might be laps of the track, it might a game that involves running between stations)

For 7yrs+, the events/stations are:

  • Sprints
  • 200m/relay
  • Reactions
  • High Jump
  • Long Jump
  • Agility
  • Shot Put
  • Discus/Quoits
  • Vortex/Mini Javelin

If the weather turns unpleasant during the evening, we may finish early so please ensure your child has arrangements in place.

If the weather is such that a Club Night needs to be cancelled prior to the event, we will post a cancellation notice on this website by 4pm and on our Facebook page.

On club nights, we need parent support. Parents will be rostered and advised before club night, however any assistance that you can provide is greatly appreciated, so come forward and offer.  And please do not worry if you do not have experience.

Club Night programmes do vary during our Ribbon Nights (dates TBC but will be late Nov / earlyDec) and Club Champs (2-3 nights in late Feb / early Mar). For these nights, the focus shifts from skill development to skill execution, which provides an opportunity for the more competitive kids, but still within a relaxed club setting.

For those athletes wishing to test themselves outside of the club night setting, there are many opportunities - please see the Interclub Programme
