GENERAL INFORMATION

Junior Interclub season 2023-24 Junior Interclub meets provide a great opportunity for children aged 7 to 15 to experience and enjoy athletics events including shot put, discus, long jump, high jump, track races from 60m up to 1500m distances, race walking, hurdles, steeplechase and relays. In previous years, these meets have proven popular and over 400 children have taken part in one or more Interclub meets during the season.

The aim is for children to experience and enjoy athletics, and gain confidence in learning new skills and extending themselves. The events are held in accordance with standards for children’s athletics, and results are recorded and published.

Children remain with their age-grade groups during the meet, and move between events in rounds. The events offered for each age-grade are adjusted to suit the age of athletes, and not all events are offered at each meet. We will publish a programme of events for each Interclub meet at least a few days ahead of each meet, so that parents and children can see the options on offer.

There are six meets in the Junior Interclub season, held on Sundays, from 10:00am. If your athlete wants to take part this season, you must purchase a season entry ticket. Once you have a ticket, your athlete can enter any and all of the events for their age-grade at any of the six meets.

Full season details and a link to the registrations will be provided via this Athletics Wellington webpage.

Onslow club uniform and Competition Numbers must be worn during competition. Shorts are black or navy.

All athletes and their families are encouraged to attend these interclubs as they are a great way to make new friends (as well as compete against athletes from other clubs).

The interclub meets are staffed by parent volunteers of all local clubs, so your assistance in this (usually just for part of the day) will be greatly appreciated!

Start time for each interclub is 9:00am unless otherwise stated and are usually finished by early afternoon about 2.00pm, with each age group having 5 or 6 events to compete in.

Spikes may be worn by athletes in the 10 year and over age group.

If the weather is doubtful, a cancellation notice will be posted by Athletics Wellington by 8.30am on the morning of the event.
