The Sea2Sea Challenge is free for everyone who takes part as it is a non-profit event. It is funded by the South Canterbury District Health Board, organised by Sport Canterbury, and supported by the Heart Foundation, the Cancer Society, and many businesses in South Canterbury who donate their products and services.

If a group is interested in taking part here’s what they should do:

    Before the challenge:

  • Assign a Group/ Workplace Coordinator.

  • This Coordinator then registers their workplace or group before     12th September.

  • Once registrations have closed, the Coordinator collects a Sea2Sea pack from Sport Canterbruy which will contain all the resources the group will need for the Challenge - an email will be sent to out to registered groups to confirm the date these packs can be collect. Coordinator pack collection day is 14th September

During the challenge -   Monday 26th September to Friday 4th November:

  • Participants complete at least 30minutes of physical activity (of their choice) each day.

  •  Points are awarded for the amount of time spent doing these activities – 1 point is awarded for 30 – 59min and 2 points for 60min or more. (Points are recoreded on your personal physical activity card)

  • Bonus points are also awarded for consuming 5 servings of fruit or vegetables each day.

  • Participants track their progress on their own personal activity card as well as on the virtual 240km route - group wall chart. The wall chart is where you can then see the progress of all your group members and see who is taking the lead by doing their physcal activites each day! (Both resources are provided in the Sea2Sea pack).

  • Within the group, encourage each other to get involved in regular physical activities - Check out the Have-a-Go poster in your Sea2Sea pack for ideas on what to do in your community.

    After the challenge:

  • Group/ workplace Coordinator collects the personal activity cards from their group members and records the scores on the score sheet provided.

  • Group/ workplace Coordinator returns all completed cards and the score sheet to Sport Canterbury. Only returned cards can go into the draw to win spot prizes

There are lots of spot prizes to be won for taking part; sharing experiences on Facebook; and for being the top group in your category. This is a great way to get motivated to get fit for summer and remember it is free to take part. Join us on Facebook @ Sea2Sea South Canterbury.
