TAUPO DISTRICT COUNCIL - COMMUNITY SPORTS GRANT 

The Lake Taupo District Sports Advisory Council is a voluntary organisation which actively facilitates the development of sporting people and for the purposes of this community fund, is the distributing agency under contract to TDC.
Taupo District Council allocates funding each year to support sporting activities and approved projects in the Taupo district.

Guidelines to Community Funding Grant

  • Individuals resident in the Taupo District (including high school students who may board outside the district during the school term) may be considered for financial grants in recognition of sporting excellence and the profile their representative selection will bring to the community
  • Individuals applying for assistance must provide documentary evidence of the event they are attending (or have attended), the nature of their selection and the national/regional body they represent.
  • Please provide details of achievements in tournaments, competitions and events that are of a representative nature.

Grants may not be used for the following –

  • Capital improvements to facilities not owned by the applicant
  • Maintenance of equipment or facilities
  • Food/catering for an event
  • Insurance
  • Subscriptions
  • Services or projects seeking to promote commercial, political or religious objectives
  • Costs associated with fundraising events where profits are redistributed to another group
  • Debt servicing or repayment
  • Legal expenses
  • Medical expenses
  • Public services that are the responsibility of central government (e.g. core education, primary health care) e.g. School sports teams/individuals
  • Purchase of alcohol


    Community Sports Grant

    Funding is allocated each year to support sporting activities and approved projects in the Taupō District.

    The purpose of the fund is to:

  • Assist appropriate voluntary sports clubs or organisations in the provision of projects or services that improve the wellbeing of the community.
  • Provide financial grants to individuals resident in the Taupō District (including high school students who may board outside the district during the school term) in recognition of an individual's excellence in sport and the profile their representative selection will bring to the community.

    Applications for funding

    Applications to the next Community Sports Grant will open Monday 2 October 2023 and will close Monday 27 October 2023

    Things to know before you apply

    As part of your online application you will need to provide the following:

  • For applications from individuals - provide documentary evidence of the event you are attending and details of your representative selection, i.e. who you are representing
  • Provide details of achievements in tournaments, competitions and events that are of a representative nature
  • A budget
  • Two quotes (or a reason why if you're not able to include)
  • Financial accounts (this is not required in applications from individuals - please upload a page stating this)
  • Pre-printed bank deposit slip or proof of bank account number (e.g. screenshot)
  • Relevant supporting information.
  • ​​​​​​​Accountability from previous grants must be completed
  • Things to know after you apply

  • Must complete the project/activity and use the allocated funds within a year of the funding being approved
  • Participate in any funding audit of my organisation or project conducted
  • Complete and submit the online accountability form within three months of the project/activity being completed
  • Any unused grants or portion of a grant will be returned to the distributors.
