JUNIOR RUGBY

UMS Junior Rugby is such an important part of the club. The 'foals' are our breeding ground for future players and members. Each season we see over 200 girls and boys take the field for an action packed Saturday morning of fun and competition.  The sea of red, black and white uniforms running in all directions is awesome.

Mini midgets cater for the 3-5 year olds. They are introduced to the game in a fun friendly atmosphere at Bedford Park, focusing on getting on the field and running with the ball.

5-7 year olds play Rippa where they get more of sense of being part of a team, practising passing and running while defensively trying to rip the opponent's waist tag off. Games are all played at Bedford Park or Hinuera's Wealleans Park.

8-13 year olds play graded tackle rugby in their year group. UMS is part of the Waikato division so games are held all over the waikato. Here they learn the finer fundament skills of rugby and working as a team, building that sense of resilience and comradery.

We work hard to get sponsorship and thank the many businesses that make Junior rugby possible at UMS. Their financial contribution helps subsidise the cost and make rugby an affordable sport for all.  Each season will only cost $25 per child and for that they receive a training shirt thanks to the generosity of our sponosors. Socks are available to buy at Sportsworld.

Thursday night is Burger Night at the club, with many families coming into the clubrooms after Thursday training and enjoying a hot meal together with other club members. Kids love the treat and the parents can have a night off cooking!
