WELCOME TO WAIKANAE JUNIOR RUGBY

The Waikanae Rugby Club has a long and proud tradition of developing young players into well-rounded rugby enthusiasts with the right set of skills and attitude if they wish to take the game further in college, as a career or as a lifelong part of their future.

The emphasis at junior level is on having fun in a safe and supportive environment. 

We are a small but active club with fantastic playing grounds, a clubhouse, and a great group of coaches and volunteers who are committed to ensuring our young players are looked after.

JUNIOR RUGBY OPTIONS

Junior rugby is for girls and boys and is available in the following grades:

  • Preschool Little Rippas - Rugby Skill Development for 3-5 year olds on Saturday morning at Waikanae Park. Please note, when registering for pre-school rugby please select Under 6 as their school year (as there is no pre-school option in the form).
  • Year 1 & Year 2 Rippa Rugby - non contact rugby where players develop ball skills, basic attack/defence and playing as a team. Saturday morning games are played anywhere between Waikanae and Tawa.
  • Year 3/4, Year 5/6, Year 7/8 Rip Rugby - is a good option for players new to rugby or those who prefer non-contact rugby.  Games are played in Porirua and Paraparaumu on a Friday evening.
  • Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 Tackle Rugby - players learn to tackle, basic scrums and lineouts, attack/defence and playing as a team in the weight graded Wellington Western Bays competition.  Saturday morning games are played anywhere between Waikanae and Tawa. Year 3 is 7 a side, Years 4, 5 & 6 are 10 a side.
  • Year 7, Year 8 Tackle Rugby - players skill development continues and Saturday morning games are played anywhere in the Wellington region. Games are 15 a side.

In 2024, all grades will remove weight limits which will ensure a more inclusive grade structure and Years 7 & 8 will move back to separate grades.


2024 JUNIOR RUGBY FEES

$55 for one child

$90 for two children

$110 for three or more children

Fees can be paid online to the Waikanae Rugby Football Club bank account 02-0591-0012774-00 (please include your childs name as a reference) or by eftpos at the Club on weigh-in days.
