Volunteers
Softball needs support from parents, teachers and friends who are keen to commit as a Coach, Scorer, Umpire, Manager or Team-Mum/Dad.
Coach
Teaches technical skills, runs a training session during the week, teaches rules and game strategy.
Gives valuable tips during the game, decides the players’ batting order and the subs.
To ensure the coach can concentrate on coaching during the games, it is necessary that all other jobs as shown below will be filled by other helpers. The coach shall not umpire!
To see our Coaching Resources and available Coaching Accreditation, please click here.
Umpire
Each team needs to provide an umpire who shall umpire half of the game.
This year, Paul Goodall (President) has taken on the role of our 'Go To' person when it comes to questions about rules and their interpretation for our T-ball and Primary School Grades. Please let Paul know if you would like to attend an umpire clinic - if we have enough attendees, we are happy to arrange a clinic for a small fee.
Scorer
Each team needs to provide a scorekeeper. If you are new as a scorekeeper and would like an introduction, please let Paul know.
Manager
The contact for the Association's Junior Coordinator and Draw Officer.
Receives information about clinics, meetings, fundraising, games via email.
Checks the weekly draw online and sends to the team.
Team-Mum or Team-Dad
Take care of the players during the game, ensure all players apply sunscreen, keep players together behind the line and make sure players currently not on the field don't run around, they supply water when it’s too hot, get an additional jumper when it’s getting cold, do the shoe laces, help putting on the catcher’s gear, and have always a smile on their face.
Team-Mum/Dad ensures all other volunteers can focus on their ‘jobs’.
Clinics
We offer coaching, umpiring & scoring clinics for beginners and advanced volunteers. Please let the Junior Softball Coordinator know if you are interested in attending any of these clinics - there must be a minimum of six attendees to confirm a clinic.
Training
If your team would like to practice on the field or one of the diamonds or you would like to play a friendly game at the park, please pre-book the field including date and time to avoid disappointments.
Send the following details to the Junior Coordinator
Requests for one-off use must be made with at least five days notice - the earlier the better, as many spots are already booked.
