COACHES, MANAGERS, REFEREES

COACHES ROLE

The coach has the most important role in the club.  You are the point of contact with players, parents and care givers and your enthusiasm and commitment makes the season fun and enjoyable.  Watching players develop under your guidance is a very fulfilling exercise and coaching enables you to connect more with your son and his friends.

PRACTICE FACILITIES
Teams practice at the WC Sports Centre or Old Boys Gym, next to the  artificial turf.  These facilities are in high demand for all WC sports clubs and practice times are coordinated between coaches, the club and the school.  Coaches may elect to practice at alternative facilities such as the ASB Sports Centre or Wellington Chinese Sports Centre. This will incur additional costs.

RULES & REGULATIONS

MANAGERS ROLE

The manager serves a vital role supporting the coach.  They communicate with players, parents and care givers, keep team records and manage the team's gear.

The manager is responsible for:

  • Ensuring players know to pick up their team gear from the college once they have paid their fees.
  • Informing players and parents of practice time and venue.
  • Informing players and parents of game times and venues. Game times and venues are found on the College Sport Wellington Draws & Results page and on this website click here.
  • Liaising with the club to ensure a referee is provided for away games.
  • Liasing with parents to arrange transport to away games.
  • Asking parents to read the Code of Conduct and policing their behaviour at games.
  • Preparing a duty roster for the score bench. Score bench duties explained click here.
  • Keeping a record of player and match highlights to help determine end of season awards.
  • Reporting game results each week to the Sports Department or  Dave Keat ([email protected]) who will forward to CSW to update their tables.
  • Ensuring team players return their team gear at the end of the season.

REFEREES

The referee serves a vital role for the game to play.  Without a referee we can not send a team out to play.  We are always looking for students or adult volunteers who would like to support the basketball community by reffing - we will help you towards the courses and pay our referees for officiating games.

Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a referee, or would like to referee games for us.  Ideally we would have one ref connected to each team.
