Concussion Recognition Guidelines

Player is knocked out/loses consciousness
Regardless of the length of time that the player is unconscious, the player MUST be removed from the field
of play and stood down for 3 weeks. It is strongly recommended that the player visit his GP and should
receive a clearance from his Doctor before returning to play football. If the clearance is for less than the 3
week stand down, then a written clearance from a Doctor must be submitted to the team manager.

Head Knock
If the player receives a head knock and appears dazed or the Referee suspects a player maybe concussed,
he may be asked to leave the field of play to be checked. This can be done by the Coach or the Manager
who should ask the player the following 5 questions:

1. What venue are you playing at?
2. Which half of the game is it?
3. Who scored last?
4. Who did you play last week?
5. Did your team win?

The player must answer all 5 questions correctly to be allowed to return to the field and continue playing (4/5
is not good enough!). If the player is unable to answer the 5 questions correctly, it is recommended that the
player visit his GP and should receive a clearance from his Doctor before returning to play football.
