Alley Memorial Park history ;The land was give to the community in 1921 by Mr William Alley and over the next 2 years led by Mr. Hughie Morrison & Mr. Isaac Robinson along with many locals raised money by running dances, balls and bazaars to create the Park. To all these people must go the greatest praise and thanks as they started from scratch in a farm paddock to create this lovely park . The Park was officialy opened in February 1923.
The Memorial gates were dedicated and pronounced open in 1926 by the electorate member ,Mr.A.M Samuels.MP
In the 1960's it was decided to build a new pavilion to replace the very old and small wooden clubhouse of 1923 with enthusiastic leadership from Mrs.Thelma Bax ,Park Secretary backed by Club members and local residents plus a huge amount of hard and voluntary work to raise the finance to build a splendid pavilion in modern materials and with every convenience and was official opened in 1969 and further extended in 1974.
Over the last 25 year or so the Bowling Club has had a steady membership and has maintained the Green to a very high standard playing surface ,have put in shelters to provide shade and added furniture and other items to the Pavilion.
The Tennis Club over this time have upgraded the Courts and put in Lights so they can play at night and at the moment has one of the strongest Tennis Clubs in Thames Valley.
The Croquet Club is now closed ,but the area is now the car park.
And now in 2015 a major upgrade is being done by Mrs Bax's son Frank Bax ,Project Manager arranging the finance through the avenue of Charity funding and with the great help from his right hand man Ken Paul.
When you look at Alley Memorial Park today it is all about the hours of work and dedication that Club members,Local residents have done to maintain our Park with a Bowling Green & Three Tennis and Wonderful Grounds and a great place just to visit all this done over the last 94 years.
