Auckland Sports Coalition

The ASC was formed in 2009 as a representative and advocacy group for Regional Sports Organisations (RSOs) across Auckland.

The ASC operates independently in the Auckland sports sector - for and on behalf of organised sport.

It is regarded as a highly influential organisation and has been critical to the success of the sport (and recreation) sector, as a key influencer of major planning and policy documents since Auckland Council was formed in 2010.

The ASC aims to bring a broad base of sector stakeholders together through collaboration, advocacy and providing key information to its members.

The ASC has 50 RSO members collectively representing over 400,000 active participants in organised sport across Auckland. A small volunteer Executive sets work plans and agenda, and is elected from the membership base.

Proactive and dynamic, the ASC provides a strong independent platform for the Auckland Sports sector to advocate for appropriate resources and financial investment in our growing regional economy.

Membership is free.

ONEVOICE - Sport and Recreation

The ASC is a fully participating member of OneVoice, the independent sport and recreation sector advisory group established in 2010 and recognised by the Mayor’s Office and Council as an important consultative group.

OneVoice played a prominent role in advocacy that led to the creation of a specific sport and recreation chapter in the Auckland Plan, and has been active since its formation in providing an independent table for Council to seek input on behalf of the sector in the early stages of considering plans and policies.

It has been a frequent submitter and presenter in informal and formal settings to Council plans and policies such as the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan, Auckland Plan, the Long Term Plan 2011-21, Public Open Space Strategy (POSSAP), and the Auckland Sport and Recreation Strategic Action Plan (ASRSAP) of which it is now a co-sponsor and collaborator in delivery stages.

Its strength lies in the collaborative approach which draws together representatives from Council, Sport NZ, Aktive, Local RSTs, The Auckland Sports Coalition, NZ Recreation Association, He Oranga Poutama, Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education. It is chaired by former Black Cap and former Manukau City Council Deputy Mayor Gary Troup.
