Being a member of the Auckland Sports Coalition provides many member benefits. The Auckland sports sector operates in a changing and dynamic market place. The Auckland region has gone through significant change with the advent of the Super City, supported by the 21 Local Boards. This has provided the backdrop for what has been a very intensive period of change. This change has meant that organised sport has had to fight for appropriate resources and recognition in a very complex and competitive environment.
The ASC is valued as a point of reference and knowledge by Auckland City Council, Auckland’s 21 local boards, Auckland’s Regional Sports Trusts, National Sporting Organisations and of course our membership.
During this time of change the ASC has provided members with a number of forums, a pre-election parliamentary debate and provided members with detailed information (templates) to support submissions to local body plans. The collaborative sports approach to council has enabled the Auckland sports sector to be heard and perhaps more importantly - we have been listened to. Our submissions have resulted in significant gains for sport. The inclusion of Chapter 5 "Sport" in the Auckland Plan was a direct result of the submission and lobbying provided by the ASC on behalf of organised sport in the Auckland region. There are many more examples of the positive impact and outcomes the ASC has delivered in recent times.
The Auckland Sports Coalition has been at the forefront of regional planning and investment and has directly influenced the tone and structure of Auckland’s various regional plans.
