FUTURE FERNS 2025
Future Ferns is a modified netball game for younger players. It is designed to ensure players develop strong foundational skills (passing, catching, landing, etc), get to try all positions and, of course, have fun! Netball is for all kids at this age, no matter what gender. There is an option for playing indoors or outdoors this year, and teams are out together based on availability of players and coaches.
Years 1/2 is run by Christchurch Netball Centre, please register with them directly
Years 3/4 play 5-aside (2 Attack, 1 Centre, 2 Defence), on a smaller court, with a smaller ball and lower hoops. The session begins with a skills focus, then a non-competitive game. Coaches are on the court assisting / umpiring. Teams do not train, it's a once per week commitment.
Format is a 15 minutes skill session followed by a game of 4 x 8 minutes quarters with 2 minute breaks between each quarter.
Years 5/6 play 6-aside (2 Attack, 2 Centre, 2 Defence), on a full court, with a smaller ball and lower hoops. Teams will often train during the week, and play a semi-competitive game on the day.
Format is Netball Smart warm up followed by a game of 4 x 8 minute quarters with 2 minute breaks between each quarter.
