2023 recap 

GEORGIA ATKINSON led from the front as she captained a strong CD Wāhine Māori squad that won the tournament played from 13 to 15 October at Cornwall Park, in Heretaunga Hastings.

Atkinson was one of four capped Central Hinds in the first CD Wāhine squad, alongside player and assistant coach KERRY TOMLINSON, vice-captain OCEAN BARTLETT and wicketkeeper-batter SAM MACKINDER

Coached by CD Māori men's representative DUSTIN EMMS-HEALEY, the 12-strong squad also featured a trio of 2022/23 CD Under 19 representatives

Wairarapa teammates LIV CLARK, MACY LYFORD and Hawke’s Bay rep REESE DRAGER had starred at the previous summer’s NZC Under 19 Nationals, national runners-up at that tournament.

2025 recap

After a first ever loss in this tournament in the opening round, our Wāhine Māori showed their resilience en route to a successful retention on the trophy.

The team won their next four T20s on the bounce, including the Final against Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wāhine, avenging that first-round loss and keeping CD's grasp on the Rona McKenzie Taonga with an eight-wicket victory.

Macy Lyford (3/9) starred with the ball for the team in the Final before the experienced pair of Georgia Atkinson (41*) and Kerry Tomlinson (34*) guided the team home.

Although CD didn't get a win over three days of competition, the team steadily grew together as a brand new group - and pushed the eventual champions hard in a tight result at Kensington Park on the final afternoon

CD's talent was reflected when two CD players, Horowhenua-Kāpiti's ZACK BENTON and BAILEY TE TOMO, were chosen in Te Tima o te Whakataetae | Team of the Tournament. Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland meanwhile emerged as the inaugural winner.

When Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland backed up their national title, it meant both champions from the inaugural men's and women's editions had gone back-to-back. For CD Māori Tane, there was also plenty to celebrate. After tough losses to Tāmaki Makaurau and another strong opponent in Te Whanganui-a-Tara - losing by just six runs, the team achieved their first ever win together in real style with a 10-wicket victory over Northern Māori. 

Now the team was on a roll, backing up with an 8-wicket win next game against Te Waipounamu to rise to third place among the five teams.
