Field Day @ Tieke Golf Estate - 2nd May 2022

The first event on the 2022 CNITMA calendar was the AGM & Golf Tournament at Tieke Golf Estate. 

At the AGM, a new committee was voted in: Ray Fanning (President – The Dunes, Matarangi); Mike Downs (Secretary-Treasurer - Waitomo); Dave Biddle (Recreational Services); Tukai Ellis (Whakatane); Jason Laing (Tieke); Shane Cole (Power Turf); Luke Phillips (Horsham Downs) and Clint Sinclair (Te Awamutu). Many thanks to Mark Wilson of Matamata for many years of service on the committee.

The Golf Tournament followed the AGM. The weather was perfect and a great day out was had by all. Best Gross winner was Tieke Head Greenkeeper Jason Laing with second place going to Stu Baird of Waitomo.

Long-term committee member/Secretary/Treasurer Mike Downs of Waitomo Golf Club was presented with a Life Membership by CNITMA President Ray Fanning. Mike started his greenkeeping career at Belmont in Whanganui then moved to his hometown course at Marton, then to Hauraki (Ngatea) and finally to Waitomo where he spent 33 years as Head Greenkeeper. He recently started working part-time at Waitomo and was happy to welcome Stu Baird (Akarana, Formosa Country Club & Gulf Harbour) who took over as Head Greenkeeper. Stu grew up at Waitomo where his father Darryl Baird (2020 NZ Vets National Champ) was club pro for several years in the 1990s. Stu’s brother Lyndon Baird is the North Island Golf & Turf Sales Manager at Agrowquip NZ Ltd.
