The Coopers Beach Bowling Club held their official opening of the 2023 – 24 season on Tuesday 12 September, a few days later than originally scheduled, due to being rained out on the 3rd September, with a field of 20 teams.
Visitors from Oruru, Kerikeri, Far North RSA, Kaitaia Church Road, Kaeo and a visitor from Silverstream, enjoying a holiday in the Far North, along with the host club members were welcomed to play in the Coopers Beach Four Square sponsored Bob Parker Memorial any combination triples.
Prior to start of play, President Dennis Breckon, introduced the club executive members and called on Patron and Life member Pat Rayner, to roll the first jack, and Life member Ngaire Morgan to play the first bowl to officially open the new season. Pat landed the jack right on the line and Ngaire got a toucher with her bowl.
After four games of one hour 10 minutes on wins, ends and points the results were:
1st: Trevor Smith, Jeff Bell, Logan Taylor (Coopers Beach)
4 wins, 23 ends, 55 points2nd: Jean Huxtable, Liz Muru, Hilton McCarthy (FNRSA)
4 wins, 21 ends, 47 points
3rd: Garry Pelling, Dennis Wishnowsky, Val Herzog (Coopers Beach)
4 wins, 19 ends, 50 points
Good Sports: Bev Shand, Brian Preston, Helen Bailey (Coopers Beach)
Greatful thanks to Coopers Beach Four Square for their generous sponsorship, green staff, kitchen helpers, match committee, raffle sellers, bar staff and all who assisted on the day.
