Types of Golf Competitions

  • Gross, medal, par, stableford, 4BBB, foursomes & ambrose competitions are all described in the Rules of Golf.
  • Modified medal: Same as medal except allowance for player to pick-up without being disqualified. The maximum score for which a hole is “capped” will be set by the starter. ie “double or triple net bogey”.
  • Irish stableford: Normal stableford score counts for holes 1 to 6. The stableford score for holes 7 to 12 are multiplied by 2, and the stableford scores for holes 13 to 18 are multiplied by 3.
  • International stableford: For a nett par the player scores 0 points; for a nett birdie the player adds 2 points; for a nett eagle the player adds 5 points; for a nett albatross or better the player adds 8 points. For a nett bogey the player deducts 1 point; for anything worse than a nett bogey 3 points are deducted.
  • American stableford: Players play stableford without handicap, then add their handicap to stableford points scored.
  • Stableford hidden hole: The hidden holes competition is the total of the stableford scores for each of the hidden holes selected. Scores on holes not included in the hole selection are simply ignored.
  • Russian roulette: Team of 2 players have their stableford scores multiplied together for each hole.
  • Arizona pairs: Pair your stableford score with your partner to form the smallest double digit: e.g. Partner scores 3, you score 1 which gives 13 Arizona points on that hole. The team with the highest number of Arizona points accumulated over 18 holes is the winner.
