Ribbon Days

Ribbon days are hosted by various clubs throughout the Waikato- Bay of Plenty, with a variety of events for ages from Tiny Tots to U16. Children compete for ribbons in events, with heats (in the case of running events) being organised to give each child a chance to win at least 1 ribbon.  Ribbons received during the day must be safety pinned to uniform, to assist this process.  The days are very much a family day for picnics and a sausage from the BBQ which is usually operating.  We also have a club tent and encourage club members to sit together to support each other.

Who can enter?
Any registered (and paid) member of any athletics club, including Frankton Athletics Club. Age Groups are as of 31st December 2017.

Requirements for the day
Correct uniform must be worn - club singlet and black (plain) shorts, with Colgate Age Patch sewn on.
No qualification standards required.
There is no need to register for the day, but please let the Frankton Club Captain (or a committee member) know you are at event, as the club is required to provide the numbers of competing athletes.

What cost?
No charge, however a program of events is usually available (approx. $2).

Hurdles and walks will be optional events; host clubs may offer some, but not necessarily all of the events for each age group in their Ribbon Day programme.  A child can enter as few or as many events as the child wants in their age group, with the exception of the long distance races - an athlete cannot compete in more than 2 longer distance events (ie 400m, 800m, 1500m, walk) on any one day.

Will my parents need to help?
All events are subject to the availability of officials and helpers. The club often needs to supply some helpers for the day to assist the club hosting the event, or you may be asked to assist with jobs such as recording, or raking long jump when your child is at their event.
