The GBAFC Little Kicks programme is designed to provide a fun and enjoyable experience for children aged 4 to 8 who are interested in playing football.

Providing Children a safe, fun, and rewarding environment to learn Football

The primary goal of the programme is to provide children with a safe, fun, and rewarding environment to learn football. It aims to introduce children to the game at their own pace and create a positive experience with an emphasis on fun and enjoyment.

Our Winter Little Kicks starts on Saturday 4th May 2024.

Golden Bay AFC Little Kicks Summer Venue

Summer Little Kicks
Golden Bay Rec Centre
2032 Takaka Valley Road, Takaka
Kick off: 9am

In the event of bad weather, such as rain, the programme may need to be cancelled. We will provide updates on the cancellation through our Facebook page at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled session. In case of light rain, the session may still proceed unless the parks are closed by the Tasman District Council.  Should it be too wet to play on the fields we will attempt to organise an indoor session at the Golden Bay Rec Park Centre.

How to best support your Child

To support your child and their team, it is recommended that you:

  1. Ensure your child arrives on time.
  2. Teach your child to play by the rules, respect game officials, and show respect to others.
  3. Provide positive encouragement from the sidelines, as it is the best way to support both the team and your child.

What your child will need

Here is a list of things your child will need for the program:

  1. Shin pads: These are essential for safety. No shin pads, no participation in the game.
  2. Golden Bay AFC Playing Shirt: Can be purchased for $35 through the coaching team.
  3. Adequate footwear: Football boots or training shoes are preferred. No gum boots or open-toed shoes.
  4. Hat or beanie: Depending on the weather, a hat for sunny days or a beanie for cold days.
  5. Water bottle: A full drink bottle is essential to stay hydrated during the sessions.
  6. Warm clothing: It is recommended to have warm clothing for after the session.

Loss of Interest

If your child loses interest in participating, it is normal and happens to everyone at some stage. You can let them take a break and come back in their own time. If needed, you can also have a quiet word with the coach, who can help reintegrate the child back into the game slowly.

Slipped Halo

Occasionally, children may become upset and disruptive during the sessions. In such cases, the coach will intervene to address the behaviour. As a parent, it is important to support the coach's actions in dealing with such situations.
