Hamilton Girls' High School Sports Awards Criteria Update 2025
By refining the awards structure, Hamilton Girls' High School aims to maintain a high-performance culture while making the recognition process more sustainable and aligned with school-related achievements.
As of 2025, Hamilton Girls' High School has revised the Sports Awards criteria to emphasize the highest levels of achievement, aligning with national and elite performance benchmarks. These changes focus on recognizing students who attain the highest levels of school-related sports representation while ensuring a sustainable and equitable awards process. Any awards presented for achievements in 2024 will adhere to the existing criteria, while the new criteria will be implemented from 2025 onwards.

Elevating Elite Achievement
The revised criteria prioritize the highest levels of achievement, focusing on national champions and New Zealand representatives
Encourages students to strive for the highest standards of school-related sports representation
Distinction Between School and Club Representation
Awards will be granted for achievements that are directly linked to school representation
While we are incredibly proud of students representing their clubs, and they receive recognition through their club and respective events, our school awards will focus on school-related representation. These students will still be acknowledged but not in the form of a Blues award
Recognition for National-Level Club Achievements
We acknowledge that some students achieve outstanding success at a national level through club pathways. While these accomplishments do not qualify for a Blues or Honours award, students achieving at this level may still be eligible for a Sports Distinction or Sports Colours award, which will be recognized with a certificate rather than a badge
Additionally, these students will be celebrated through school newsletters, assemblies, and social media recognition to ensure their achievements are valued
Sustainability and Cost Considerations
Badges have proven to be a costly expense for the sports department
The transition to certificates for Sports Colours and Sports Distinction allows for cost-effective recognition while maintaining the prestige of Blues and Honours badges
Alignment with Best Practices
Ensures consistency with other top-performing schools in recognizing elite sports achievements
