HAG Newsletter – June 25

A reminder that our customary monthly meeting will be held on Saturday 21st June (Matariki weekend).   We would love to see you there for a day of painting/art/chatter in light, modern and warm surroundings, PLUS the inspiring, stimulating and scintillating company of fellow HAG members.  Discerning music from the 1920’s to the 2020’s will be heard.  Plenty of close parking available.    Please bring any finished paintings etc – especially those completed since Gilli Marshall’s incredible workshop last month.

If you can’t get there on that  actual day, remember Ian Thompson’s water-colour/pastel group every 2nd Thursday at the Library (Mezzanine Floor), or give Winnie Doevendans a call about her weekly Tuesday and Wednesday groups.

Keirunga Art Club have kindly offered their homestead to individual artists/and OUR group for the two weekends of the HB Art Trail, 8/9 + 15/16 November.  It’s free of charge and very generous of them.  There may be a couple of other artists sharing the space and set-up would be our own.

We have accepted their kind offer,  but will need some willing helpers on each of the four days.  Please contact Margaret ( ‭06 875 0483‬) Colleen (‭027 304 1744‬) or Francis (Francis is not available for a few weeks).    As we need to remove everything after each weekend, we are proposing that we have two different groups of our members exhibiting on each of the weekends.  As soon as we have more information, we will let you know more particulars, in the meantime – think about what you would like to exhibit – OR get creative now !   cdf

The Art Hawkes Bay team is keen to know if any artists would like to be involved in a portrait exhibition?  This would be over and above our annual exhibition which has just concluded.

We feel it is important to grow and strengthen Art Hawkes Bay across the region and we will endeavour to do this by consulting with artists to offer more opportunities.

Should a Portrait exhibition go ahead there are a number of things to consider:

*  level of interest from artists

*  a suitable venue to hold the exhibition (Art HB cannot hold two exhibitions at the Community Arts Centre in Hastings - we are entitled to one event per annum)

*  cost associated with hosting a second exhibition (advertising, venue costs etc)

*  any artists wishing to assist with the managing of such an exhibition

*  time of year - (likely need to be nearer the end of the year avoiding November as this is the Art Trail month)

Please note that this is an exploratory email and if there is enough interest we will forge ahead to see what we can deliver !

Please let me know if you would be willing to help with the organising.

Any ideas or thoughts are welcome so please give your feedback.

We hope we can make this happen and it would likely not be until next year but we would like to plan ahead where we can.  I will keep you posted on the feedback received.
