NZ Education Department 'Night Schools' (which had originally catered for this type of community organisation), had closed - and apart from Havelock North's Keirunga, there wasn't a venue or organisation for local artists to gather and practise together.

Consequently, Hastings Artist's Group was formed  at the Hastings War Memorial Library on 27 February 2012, after four interested people (Ian and Diane Thompson, Winnie Doevendans and Sheryl Eustace), realised the need for an affordable local art group in Hastings.

The Club began with Tuesday evening meetings which progressed to a regular 'Club Day'.

Our Club logo was created by Sheryl Eustace

Originally, oils and acrylic artists club days were held at Winnies residence, Ian managed the watercolour painters, and Sheryl, mixed media.
