It's time to make the trip over the Waimakariri River to face our close rivals, Waimak United — a side we know all too well. These fixtures are always fiercely contested: physical, loud, fast and aggressive. We know exactly what we're walking into, and we're looking forward to the challenge.
Last week's match against Burwood was excellent preparation. We knew we had to be up for it from the first whistle and set the tone early, and I thought we did that really well. It was one of our most convincing performances of the season. While parts of the game became a little messy, the mentality of the group stood out. After the disappointment of the previous week, the players responded brilliantly, and even when we were reduced to 10 men, we didn't have to change too much because the behaviours and commitment were already there.
This week we welcome Jack Allatt back into the squad following his holiday in Europe. Jack has been a key player for us this season, bringing leadership and presence every time he steps onto the pitch. It doesn't look like he's spent too much time relaxing either — his intensity at training has been right where we left it. It'll be great to have him back and see what he can produce.
To everyone at the club, if you can get down to The Nest for the Championship fixture beforehand, I highly recommend it. Ferrymead Bays Keen Lads take on our Championship side in what promises to be another outstanding contest, kicking off at 12:30pm. The last meeting finished 2–2 before ending in a penalty shootout, so there's plenty on the line this time around. I can't wait to see how the boys respond.
Best of luck to all of our teams representing the club around the city tomorrow.
