The Hawkes Bay Rugby Community Support Trust was established in 2023 following Cyclone Gabrielle to support the Hawkes Bay and people affected. So far with the help of One NZ through the One Good Kiwi app $100,000 has been distributed to local community groups. An additional $70,000 has been provided to local hubs assisting with the recovery of Cyclone Gabrielle. The trust is providing ongoing support of local groups and affected areas.
OUR PURPOSE
To support and assist the Hawke’s Bay rugby community with relief from detrimental effects of natural disasters and events, sickness, injury and loss.
the HBRCST and One NZ were delighted to provide $100,000 split across the below groups.
CYCLONE GABRIELLE HUB SUPPORT
The HBRCST Trust has supported the following hubs established in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle. Each hub has received a donation of $5000 totalling over $70,000 so far. These funds have been allocated for community connection events, infrastructure improvements, and other needs.. We continue to work with other hubs to assist where we can.
RURAL COMMUNITY SUPPORT
During 2024 trustees were provided feedback that many of Hawke's Bays rural community were still feeling the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle and the isolation that many had faced. Trustees recognised this and in partnership with the Hawkes Bay Rugby Union provided a free community connection event at the Hawkes Bay v Whanganui Ranfurly shield challenge at McLean Park. The trust was able to utilise vacant lounge space and ground areas to provide an casual setting for families to get off their farms and enjoy some time catching up with others whilst Magpies players entertained kids with activities, bouncy castles and some entertaining rugby.
