U12 Programme

​​​​​​​Our U12 Programme is the beginning and introduction into the wonderful world of water polo at Hawkes Bay Water Polo. It is for players mainly in Years 7 and 6 except for some Year 5 and Year 8 layers (depending on birth date). 

We offer a range of teams for all different abilities and experience.​​​​​​​

Born: Players born on or after January 1st 2012 are eligible to play. ​​​​​​​

U12 Trial Information 202​​​​​​4

Players will be required to attend all trial sessions and trainings thereafter to be considered and be a part of the training and travelling squad.

  • Sunday 3rd March: 9 – 10:30am
  • Sunday 10th  March: 10:30am - 12pm


Information About U12’s with HBWP

  • Playing water polo at this age and learning to play sport with other children the same age
  • Learning how to play in a team environment with no pressure on children
  • Coaches who are passionate about teaching the children to enjoy the game
  • Being placed in teams that will enhance the children’s game throughout the season
  • Have the opportunity to meet lots of children your own age and play sport with them
  • Commit to trainings with the team and coach throughout the season
  • If you are passionate about the sport the opportunity to trial for U14 age group teams.

2024 Tournaments

Please note that some of these tournaments at this stage are TBC.​​​​​​​

26 - 28 April, Tauranga U12 Tournament 

This event is run by Tauranga Water Polo Club and is held at the Baywave Aquatic Centre in Mt Maunganui. Attending this event is TBC.  


14-16 July,  Rowan Brown Jelly Belly U12 Tournament 

This event is run at both our home pools AUT Millennium and National Aquatic Centre. Attending this event is TBC.  


26 - 28 October, Festival of Olympic Hopefuls 

This event is run by NZ Water Polo as a fundraiser for the national players. The event is run during school time on Friday so you must be aware of this. The event is being run in Hamilton this year. ​​​​​​​ 

Registration fees for 2024 season

  • You will also need to register through NZWP and there will be an additional fee for this that needs to be paid prior to you being able to compete.
  • There will also be an additional payment for NZ National Age Group championships should you attend this event.

Payment details: Direct credit upon receipt of invoice.

Uniform Sales

Once selected into the squad, information will be released about a “Registration Night” where squad members are to place their order for uniform. We bulk order uniform from overseas so players and parents will be required to attend this evening to try on and order kit for the season. 

Players must have the club togs and uniform to play in any tournaments.
