Welcome
Kia Ora and welcome to Horowhenua College. My name is Matthew Good and I am the Director of Sport, a position I have been in since 2025. I have a diverse background in sport having played grassroots all the way up to professionally, as well as holding numerous positions from coach, manager, administrator, secretary, and volunteer over the last 20 years. I was born and raised in Leeds, England before coming to New Zealand to pursue a career in sport. Since moving to Levin permanently in 2016, I have become a husband to my wife Aisling and father to our 3 children; Rhiley, Chester and Ada. I have been employed in secondary school sport for the last 8 years and fully understand we have a range of students who walk through our doors with different sporting aspirations. We have some students who want to go on and represent New Zealand or their chosen country in their sport, and we have some students who just want to play for fun and make some friends along the way. My job is to provide opportunities for all and help our students on their sporting journeys.
I am a huge believer that sport should be accessible for all, therefore in 2025 our $60 Sport Season Pass was created, allowing all students to pay a one-off $60 fee which allows them to join as many sports teams as they want. This initiative has been incredibly successful with numbers in our sporting codes increasing across the board where we achieved the highest percentage and number of students playing sport at Horowhenua College ever! I am delighgted to say that this initiative will run again in 2026.
Be rest assured, when it comes to sport I will be doing everything within my control to ensure that every student has the same opportunities to participate and succeed. I look forward to seeing you all on the field, court and turf very soon.
