Course Description
The Year 9/10 Cricket Academy aims to develop the foundational technical, tactical, physical, and mental skills required for cricket performance. Students will participate in practical skill sessions, strength and conditioning, game analysis, and theory lessons that explore teamwork, psychology, leadership, and sportsmanship. Lessons will utilise the Howick College facilities during the cricket season and HPCC indoor facilities during term 1 and term 2.
Course Aims

Develop core cricketing skills (batting, bowling, fielding, and wicketkeeping).
Understand cricket tactics, strategy, and decision-making in different formats.
Improve physical literacy, fitness, and movement competency.
Foster teamwork, communication, and leadership within cricket contexts.

Overview
Term 1 and 4- Match Preparation
Focus: Skill development, team culture, and game competency
Introduction to Academy expectations and whanaungatanga (team connection).
Preparation for school cricket season
Batting against pace and spin: adapting to different conditions.
Developing a variety of backfoot and frontfoot shots to attack and defend.
Fielding circuits and small-sided games.
Goal setting and creating personal development plans.
Game planning and team strategy sessions.
Bowling plans, setting fields, and reading opposition tactics.
Introduction to match scenarios (e.g., powerplay strategy, chasing totals).
