Saints Softball Club are proud to form a collaboration with Te Rito Hakinakina that supports the growth and development of poiuka (softball) for tamariki.

Te Rito are a performing arts group that were formerly based at the old Fraser Park Squash Club on Fraser Park.

We first joined together in the 2022 – 2023 season and Te Rito have since formed a Hakinakina Sports Club that now caters for Softball, Netball and Touch Rugby for it’s Te Rito members.

This season there are U5 (Little League), U7 and U9 teams in the Hutt Valley Junior Softball Association competition which plays on a Saturday morning.

Te Rito have a Te Reo kaupapa which helps their tamariki learn more of the Maori language by using words, phrases and eventually sentences in their everyday setting, including during softball (poiuka) practices and games.

The collaboration is a mutually beneficial and positive way forward for both organisations. We are proud to support Te Rito under our umbrella as Saints are able to provide a beginning softball pathway for their young tamariki. It is also hoped that some of our young softballers will join Te Rito to learn kapa haka and other performing arts.
