Chairman’s Report  2021

The FY21 Year has by far been one of the most challenging years I have had as Chair of the ICE board. The merger of Rangiora Gymnastics with ICE Trampoline into what we now know as Ice Gymsports North Canterbury has had its many challenges and tested all the skills the board could muster to make the merger as smooth as possible. A big thanks to Cam and Craig who came across from the Gym Club and joined our board. This helped immensely with communication between the two very different cultures and certainly helped with the merger issues that did arise as we bought the two clubs together. It is great to see Cam has chosen to remain on the board going forward. A big congratulations must go to Nigel and Vicki on how quickly they adapted to going from managing a small team of coaches to what is now a considerably larger team. Working through introducing new employment contracts and developing a unified culture between the two codes, has not been an easy task, so well done.

Losing our senior WAG coach last year was not something we had planned for. Appointing Nisha to this roll has been a real positive decision for the club. Nisha has bought a whole different outlook to what we can achieve, most notably the introduction of our holiday programmes, that have been a great success. It is really great to have her on our team.

As I have already stated we had our challenges in FY21, not withstanding having to deal with Covid, the board were working towards the purchase of our current building from the NCSRT. Unfortunately, due to building issues, we hit a roadblock in obtaining finance to buy the property. A big thanks to Dan Gordon, Mayor of Waimakariri District and his council for the work they have done to finding a solution to our building issues going forward. We hope to have this resolved by the end of August which will then give us the security to plan for the future in this facility.

As we progress out of FY21 into FY22 I am confident that we are on the right track to grow this club to new heights. We have a good skilled team running the operations of our club plus the bold initiatives they are prepared to take such as holiday programmes and the purchase of a Bus to help grow our schools programme. I am feeling positive that we are now in a position to grow our Gymnastics programmes in North Canterbury even further than we are at present.

Finally, a big thanks to the current board who have worked hard behind the scenes in what was a challenging year. Your hard work is very much appreciated.
