National Tournament / Hosts – Waiariki

The 2024 Aotearoa Māori Netball Oranga Healthy Lifestyle (AMNOHL) national tournament will be held over Easter weekend in Rotorua at the Rotorua Netball Centre starting with the powhiri on Good Friday 29 March 2024.

Noho

The format for the Noho is below

Date:                       Saturday and Sunday 10/11 February 2024

Time:                      Saturday afternoon, 4pm (Powhiri)

Venue:                    Naenae College marae, High Street in Lower Hutt

Dress Code:              Black skirt (knee length or longer) and white top (school shirt is fine)

sandals or shoes (no jandals or scuffs)

Weekend Gear:        Sleeping bag/blanket, nightwear, toiletries, towel and a change of

training clothes for the overnight stay.

Kai will be provided by all of the teams and this will be organised by the team managers to encourage WHAKAWHANAUNGATANGA AND MANAKITANGA.

The afternoon starts with an informal powhiri and we invite whanau to join us on the taumata. Our objective is to make this process a comfortable and enjoyable experience.  After this the kohine will move into their teams to whakawhanaungatanga with each other. We would expect everyone to know and be able to recite their pepeha in Maori or English to each other during this session. The U13 and new whanau are encouraged to join us for the powhiri, and the earlier part of the afternoon will be an opportunity to learn more about Ikaroa Ki Te Tonga, the national tournament, and our vision for the future.

During the noho, we will also learn to work together, i.e., cooking and cleaning, our tikanga (responsibility, behavior, and expectations) interactive te reo māorii waiata/march pass sessions while representing Ikaroa ki Te Tonga Māori Netball at a national tournament.

Sunday morning starts early with a 6am run to the Hutt Valley netball courts and back again. This is followed by breakfast, packup, waiata, umpire new rules session and netball training.

Twilight Leagues

Some teams have entered the competition at Aku Tanga Arena in Wellington or in the Hutt Valley twilight competition to get some court time and match play under their belts. This is a good time for the teams to develop combinations and, more importantly, get some game time together before the Nationals. The managers will provide more details, i.e., cost and uniforms, closer to the time.

Regional Tournament

Ikaroa Ki te Raki has invited Aotea and us to a regional tournament on Sunday, 10 March, in Palmerston North. This will provide another opportunity for our teams to experience a tournament environment before we travel to Rotorua. The managers will provide more information closer to the date.

National Tournament

Our accommodation has been confirmed at the Keswick Holiday Park in Rotorua and which includes our meals and lunches.

Fees / Fundraising

The fee for 2024 is $250.00 per player, to be paid by the end of February 2023. The fees cover uniforms, backpacks, tracksuits, netball uniforms, travel, accommodation, meals, and recovery food. T-shirts are an extra cost of $41.50, and this is a one-off cost for new members. Twilight fees are also extra and the managers will discuss this with their players.

Whanau that choose to fundraise are encouraged to do so. This can be done as a club/ team event or individually. In the past, we have held raffles, kai stalls, sponsored runs, and auctions.

If anyone has any ideas they would like to share, please get in touch with your manager or an exec member.

Kia ora
