Our Organisation

Legacy Taekwon-Do is a member of the International Taekwon-Do Foundation, New Zealand (ITKD), and is affiliated with the International Taekwon-Do Federation ↗ (ITF).

ITKD has grown from a few small clubs in Palmerston North and Wellington in the early 1970s. Today our organisation has a network of over 50 Taekwon-Do clubs nationwide.

Taekwon-Do is the Korean martial art of self-defence. The physical aspects of Taekwon-Do training will develop your agility, coordination, balance, strength, fitness, motor skills, and more, while the mental aspects provide the strength of character and confidence, and will help you prepare for all areas of your life.

Moreover, Taekwon-Do has a strong emphasis on the moral aspects of the art, such as discipline, humility, and self-control. These non-physical aspects are known as the “Do”.  Members of International Taekwon-Do are taught aspects of “Do” as a part of the grading syllabus and are encouraged to live by the tenets of Taekwon-Do, which are: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-control, and Indomitable Spirit.
