LHPSSA represents approximately 9500 students in over 40 schools in the Lower Hutt region. The schools are divided into 4 Zones - South East, South West, North, and Central - of which there are approximately 10 schools in each zone.

LHPSSA is governed by a group of Lower Hutt Primary School principals, a representative from Sport Wellington and a representative from the Hutt City Council - of whom LHPSSA have a Memorandum of Understanding with. LHPSSA work alongside regional sporting organisations, clubs and over 40 affiliated primary schools to promote, facilitate and support quality school sport, recreation and physical literacy opportunities. Our primary objective is for Lower Hutt Primary School students to have the opportunity to develop a lifelong love of sport and being active.

Priorities for LHPSSA:

  • To grow the approach to accommodate competition, participation, skill development and recreation.
  • To provide opportunities which cater to the diverse needs of our tamariki and which meet the needs of member schools.

- Leadership:

  • To be a trusted voice, leader and organisation of influence in the Primary School sport, recreation and physical
    literacy space.
  • To take a lead role in quality control of external delivery in primary schools - therefore working with clubs, RSOs and other organisations to ensure they meet the expectations of schools.

- Collaboration and Partnerships:

  • To establish effective working relationships and mutual understanding with stakeholders.
  • To ensure organisational viability and sustainability.

- Support:

  • To support the growth and development of school sport staff and administrators.
