19th March 2013
Congratulations to Chriss Barry, Sam Corston and Player coach Brendan Nolan on their selection in the
Aoraki Maori South Canterbury Rugby
team that played in the South Island Tornament held in Timau on the 25th of Feb.

Maori rugby has a lot of opportunities if young players want to take them and create their own pathway to higher honours

The challenge is for talented players of Maori descent to put their hands up and let their heritage be known.
"Maori rugby is definetely a step up from club rugby, which is a pathway to ITM Cup" or rugby contracts overseas.

'Its good because its quite early in the year and it gets you fit and ready for club rugby. The best way to get involved was to talk to senior club memebers to let them know your heritage and intention to play Maori rugby.

A word from Brendon
"The senior side started preparing for this coming season in November last year with gym session and Boxing session at Round 12 Boxing Gym we are currently training on Tuesday and Thursday down at the rec. with Aaron Mitchell putting the boys through there paces, so far they have participated in the

Lyttelton Amazing race,
fitness session carrying logs,
throwing tires, and
running sand dunes.

March 16th a squad of 30 will travel to Kaikoura to play in a tri-series tournament involving Waitohi rfc from Picton and the local Kaikoura team.

This years team will be captained by Stefan Vaiola who is a natural leader on and off the field, all of the players will be attending the crfu rugby smart course so that they can assist with the junior teams when work commitments allow"
