Member Profiles:

Leon O’Sullivan (1986):

First wore the club jersey in 1957 for the sixth grade .Continued playing through the grades for the club until 1972, where he was appointed Senior Coach 70, 72 to 76. Also served on the committee from 1963- to 87, with the odd spell in between.
JAB Chairman 86-87.
Leon for his commitment and work for the club was made a Life Member in 1986.
J.A.B. delegate to the SCRFU JAB in1987.
Was the Club’s delegate on the SCRFU from 1977 -82. Then the club’s Vice President 1980-82. President 83-84. Then in 1989-90 was elected as the SCRFU’s Vice President: with him taking on the role as President in 91-92.
Leon farmed at Te Ngawai during this time. Has served on the Mackenzie District Council. Now residing in Timaru and serving on various committees’. Still take's a great interest in the club.


Len King (1987):

  Joined up with the club in 1958 with the 4th grade team. As a 14year old. Played through the grades until 1972, did have 2 years on O.E. playing for the Waimate club 1963-64.
Played for South Canterbury age grade teams 61, 63, and 63. Selected for the South Canterbury Seniors 1964, 66, 67, 68 and played 26 games.
Took over as club secretary in 1971 through to 78, Chairman of the JAB 1979-82.
Club Delegate to SCRFU JAB 80-84,  IAB Delegate 85-87 (Chairman 88-92). Was the IAB delegate on the SCRFU 87-92. Len also selected Colts, Country teams, managed teams at different times from 76 to 92.
Made a Life Member of Mackenzie RFC in 1987.
Was the Club’s delegate on the SCRFU’s Management committee 93-98. Union Vice President 99-2000, President 01-02,
made a Life Member of the SCRFU in 2008.
Is a Patron of the South Canterbury Supporters Club.
Past Secretary of the South Canterbury Supporters Club.
Chairman of the Celtic Rugby Football Club’s Centennial Committee 2006 and was  made an Honorary Vice President in 2007.
Keeps all the Stasticial information for the Mackenzie RFC and Celtic RFC, as well as the Union. Helped to organize both the MRFC's 25th (1978) & 50th (2003) Jubilee’s and SCRFU’s 100yrs in 1988. Currently on the committee to organize the Union’s 125th celebrations in 2013.
Len farmed at Cattle Valley until 1987 then moved to Timaru and is currently employed as a Gardener/ tractor driver.
Still attends Mackenzie games regularly and is regarded as a legend of the club. With over 50 years associated with the club.





Evan Glass (1993):

Evan’s association with the club started in 1967 playing 4th grade, but only had another season where he received a serious injury forced him to give up playing rugby.
Evan then put his energies into administration. Joined the committee in 1969-72, back in 87, 3rd Grade Coach 71, 73, Senior Reserve 74-75, Seniors 83-8,: Club Vice President 73-75, President 76-79. Served on the SCRFU’s Management Committee 1981-90. Managed several teams, coaching convenor and was a member of the Union’s centennial committee in 1988.
Made a Life Member in 1993 for services to administration.
Evan farmed at Albury.
Evan and Wife Heather now run the Bella Vista Motels in Ashburton.


Bill Anderson (1995):

Bill first wore the club colours in 1973 for the Seniors through to 1980. Selected for South Canterbury in 1973 through to 77 played 58 games and got 1 try. He was a member of the S.C. winning Ranfurly Shield team in 74.  Got several All Black Trial. Played for the South Island in 1976. Was on the committee in 1980,85,86,87,92,93,94. First go at Coaching was the 3rd Grade in 1971, Seniors in 1977, came back in 82, 83, 84. Vice President 89, 90. President 90, 91.
Bill was made a Life Member in 1995.
JAB delegate to the committee 2001- 02.
Bill has also done coaching at Timaru Boys High School, as well as coaching the Hannan Shield Secondary Schools Girls Teams.
Bill currently farms at Albury and is following son Tim playing for the club.


Jim Allan (2000):

Jim was nominated by the Squash club for his work and dedications during the early year of the club: Waiting for some more details.



Noel Glass (2001):

Noel came out of Timaru Boys High School and played 6th grade for the club in 1971, he played through the grades until he retired in 1986. Noel played in various South Canterbury age group representative teams and gained selection for the New Zealand Colts team in 1976.
He was a member of the Winning South Canterbury Ranfurly Shield team in 1974. Went on to play 110 games for the province,  scoring 13 tries.
Noel coached the Mackenzie Seniors at different times, 1979, 87, 92, 93, 94, 95. Was Club Captain 1990-91, assisted in the JAB as a coaching advisor, was the club’s coaching convenor for a few seasons.
Noel was made a Life Member in 2001.
Noel currently farms at Albury.

Greg Anderson  (2011):

Local born and bred, went to Fairlie Primary School and Waitaki Boys High School.
Played for Mackenzie U/18 in 1984.
Broke into the Seniors 1988, played through to 1999. Played 195 senior games until retired in 1999, (note - club games have only been recorded since 1990) hence he was only been allocated those 195 games.
During his time playing also served on the committee 1990,91,92. Joined the Board in 2000 until 2011. Was cricket delegate 02,03.04 to the board. Secretary of the J.A.B. 02-07. Coached Senior B in 03, U/16 08, Senior B 10,11. Club Vic President 07-08. President 09-10. Also convenor of many club fund raising schemes.
Greg currently farms at Sherwood Downs, Fairlie.


JEREMY SUTHERLAND (2013)

Albury Born and educated until attending Waihi School, then Christ College.
Came home to join the club in 1983 Under 20.
Played various grades until 2000.

A committee member as well as a delgate on the SCRFU Management Committee and Council of Clubs for over 20 years, including Club Captain in 1994 and a 4 year term as President 2002-05.

Jeremy is the club's Historian of the Mackenzie Sub-Union era (1907- 1952).
Was Co-Author of the Club's 50th Jubilee book: "Leather and Tussock" in 2003 with John Button.

Introduced the MacKenzie Sub-Union trophy in 2000 to mark 125 years of rugby in the Mackenzie 1875-2000.
Sub-union tournaments are held at various times and the trophy is presented to to winning team.
Introuduced the T.F. Bussell Trophy (donated by former Patron Joan Cameron) Centennial Match in 1997 (played for every 2 years between Fairlie Creek and Albury).
The Sub- Union trophy was donated by Jeremy, so much about his passion for keeping history of the sub-union alive.
Organised the display cabinet of notable local and overseas jeresys as well as keeping old and new photos in order, set up a display cabinet after the 2003 50th Jubilee, along with a special display of cricket memorabilia, much of it donated by his late father Tom. Designed the current playing strip and the Club's 'Coat of Arms'. Also donated the "Highway 8 Trophy" for senior games between Mackenzie and Pleasant Point.

While serving on the SCRFU Jeremy was a member of the organising committee in 1987 for the Unions Centennial celebrations, and just this year (2013) was on the Union's 125th Jubilee Committee, where he under took and wrote a new edition of the Union's history "Green and Black Through and Through".
In conjunction with the South Canterbury museum he organised a display celebrating 125 years of Rugby in South  Canterbury..
Another one of Jeremy's interests was the introduction of the "Hamersley Cup" for the Senior Club Championship, and the donation of the "Coal Pit Trophy" for games between South Canterbury and West Coast.
Also updates and collects Union team photos and maintains its history.
Jeremy has a real passion about the game, does weekly radio sessions, during the season, and compiles, when required, articles for newspapers etc, and also only to pleased to help out other Clubs in compiling and researching information for them.

A person dedicated to the cause of rugby not only in the Mackenzie, but South Canterbury as well.

Jeremy resides in Timaru, and has his own business,  Beer Systems Services (South Canterbury)

Jeremy was made a Life Member of the South Canterbury Rugby Football Union at it's 126th A.G.M. on 26th February 2013.
Congatulations.

He is the 2nd club Life Member to be hounoured as a Union Life Member:
Joining another club icon Len King.

COLIN McKINNON    (2014)

Fairlie born and lived all his life in the district.
Played for the Fairlie club in the Mackenzie
Sub-Union.
Represented the Sub-Union in 1951.
When the M.R.F.C. was formed in 1953
Colin was a member of the orginial squad.
Coached the 4th Grade (U/18) team roller to joint winners of the SCRFU competition inn 1959.
Committee member from 1960-68.
Vice-President:  1962:
President 1963: Also the year that new extentions were open by the club. 25th March.
1964: co-coach seniors with Mick Casey.
Major organisor of fund raising to get club rooms built. Such as: Smoke concerts,Fancy dress
dances, Chocolate wheels, Euchers.
Produced the first club programme by using gelatine in a baking tray, using a roller made of of a old ringer. and a special carbon type sheet to imprint onto a pad. The a gestener was messy but got job done.
Always had a open home when the A.B's were playing overseas, to listen to there games in the middle of the night on a crackley radio.No TV in those days.
Always on hand to help out around the club to make repairs etc.
Still plays the Bagpipes ot home games for the Seniors.
A real MACKENZIE "RAM" supporter for 65 years.
His father Alan was a life member in 1968.
The club's first father and son life members.
Colin
Colin was also the milkman in Fairlie for a good number of years.
He still lives in Princess street.
